Hi, Tim. My name is Jorge Morales and this is my video on the five things that I have been able to apply from your book to my business.

One of them is on outsourcing for example; I have been able to get an assistant from ask Sunday to call junk yards to purchase parts that we use in my business to rebuild them or rebuild parts from other customers and usually this… we have to deal with a lot of people that are very cranky and they need things to be faxed in.  It just takes a lot of time to do so. It is something that I am very happy that we have been able to outsource.

Automating wise, I would have to say that now I only take orders online whereas before it used to be only through the phone and I’ve been doing this through wufoo.com which is, they allow you to make forms that you just embed on your website and you are able just to get orders right on your email. They also accept paypal and other kinds of payment methods. (more…)

Hi, my name is Chuck Holton and back in 2004, I had been working as a stockbroker for about ten years and noticed a trend with some of my wealthier clients. There was that they all had the same regret that they did not spend enough time with their kids. And as I look at the way my life was going I could tell that although I had a good job and was making good money I would probably be in that same situation when I got older. And so I determined to do something about that and sort of restructure my life in a way that would let me be home with my kids more often.  And part of that was the writing, and long story short, eventually I worked my way out of the brokerage firm after a couple of years.

There was one other thing I learned in that process and that was that while I had been telling my clients to diversify their income I was not personally diversifying my cash flow.  So I only had one source of income and that hurt me and when the market was down and I did okay when the market was up. But so over time, I started to diversify my income and it got to the point where I could quit my job at the brokerage firm and work from home. (more…)

Jack: I wanna go back to minimum effective dose per minute and I interviewed you for my book, The Success Principles and you told a story about how I think you were at Princeton at the time, I think you’ve been overseas in Japan for a year, came back and a friend said he was gonna go to a kickboxing championship and would you come and be in the audience just to be his buddy. And you went “When is it? I think I wanna do it!” He said “Have you ever done kickboxing before? I think you’ve done judo or something” and you said “No, I haven’t done that but I can learn.” First of all, it was just like “I’m gonna study and I’m going to figure it out, I’m gonna apply myself” and you went full in, all in like in Hold’em Texas, you know? But the minimum effective dose thing, I think applies to that story as well. Can you kinda recount that story?

Tim: Absolutely. So I was talking to my buddy Albert who had been the national team captain for Chinese kickboxing. And it happened exactly as you explained and he sent me the details. I think we used fax back in the day, just getting started. It was something like 8 weeks away. So I very clearly could not beat people at their own game. But I read through the rules very closely and I asked myself the question – what are the in-built assumptions here? How are other people gonna be competing? TIM FERRISS: And that’s also a big part of it and this is really borrowed directly from Seneca and Epicurus and a few other philosophers is, it’s not because you want to take this moral high ground and say that you prefer this aesthetic hard lifestyle of bread and flip flops and nothing else, it’s not that. Its…you practice that so that you don’t fear it and once you don’t fear that than all of a sudden you have a lot more options and you have the wherewithal in the stomach to make really terrifying decisions or decisions that would be terrifying to other people once you don’t fear…you are like this isn’t that bad I can actually do really well with this as long as I have a cheap bottle of wine and a few friends to have dinner with and if things aren’t really that bad then it gives you the freedom to make decisions about changing jobs, starting companies, closing down companies, things like that you otherwise wouldn’t have.

Cool it improves your pressing strength for those of your guys out there want to increase your overhead pressing strength you can usually get another 10 to 15% out of your pressing strength if you make your feet really strong, it’s a long conversation but anyway.
